IHM is ranked in the top 25 Australian higher education institutions for quality of education experience according to the ratings of participating IHM students in the 2020 Student Experience Survey (SES) released this week.
The SES forms part of the Australian government’s Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) surveys – a coherent suite of surveys covering the students’ experience in higher education from commencement through to employment. The SES measures the learning experiences and satisfaction of current students and is the only comprehensive survey of higher education students in Australia.
IHM students were among around 198,000 undergraduate students and 97,000 postgraduate coursework students from Australian universities and non-university higher education institutions (NUHEIs) participating in the 2020 SES.
According to Independent Higher Education Australia (IHEA) – the peak body representing independent institute of higher educations in Australia – IHM’s rankings relative to 134 participating higher education institutions (public universities and non-university higher education institutions), are as follows:
Further, according to IHEA, IHM’s rankings relative to the 99 participating higher education institutions (public universities and non-university higher education institutions) specifically offering postgraduate courses of study, are as follows:
Each of these measures can be summarised as follows:
Overall Quality refers to the 82.8% of IHM students who rated their overall educational experience positively
Student Support refers to the 81.7% of IHM students who rated the support they received at IHM positively, for example, whether enrolment systems, learning advice, careers advisors and health services were available and helpful
Skills Development refers to the 92.7% of IHM students who rated their skills developed through their studies positively
Learning Resources refers to the 78.9% of IHM students who rated the learning resources provided by IHM positively, for example, access to computers, libraries and teaching facilities
Teaching Quality refers to the 84.6% of IHM students who rated the quality of teaching they have received positively
Learner Engagement refers to the 57.6% of IHM students who rated their engagement with learning at IHM positively, for example, the frequency of online or face to face discussions, and whether they had a sense of belonging at IHM
On behalf of IHM, I would like to thank all our current students for the positive feedback they expressed publicly concerning their overall educational experience. For IHM to be ranked inside the top 25 as assessed directly by students and independent of IHM itself regarding overall quality is affirming feedback indeed.
Further, to be ranked inside the top 10 as assessed directly by students and independent of IHM itself regarding skills developed through their studies is also affirming feedback for all IHM staff. Thank you to all our committed IHM staff for what you have done in 2020, are doing in 2021 and will continue to do towards maximising the educational experience for all future IHM students.
